Problems with prostate infection (also called prostatitis) often afflict men in their 30s to 50s. But even older men may get prostatitis. Aside from the usual symptoms getting worse, mistreatment can also worsen problems with prostate infection.
For instance, the wrong kind of massage therapy can lead to severe pain, infection of other parts of the body, and even hemorrhage.
Problems With Prostate Infection - Four Prostatitis Types
Problems with prostate infection occur due to bacteria in the first two types of prostatitis. The causes of the other two are still unknown.
1. Acute bacterial. Occurs suddenly. Symptoms are serious chills, fever, blood in urine. Needs to be directly treated by a doctor. It?s the easiest to detect and cure among all types. Unfortunately, it?s also the least common.
2. Chronic bacterial. Doesn?t occur suddenly. Symptom is recurring bladder infection. Cause could be some prostate defect that makes the urinary tract collect bacteria.
3. Chronic prostatitis or pelvic-pain disorder. Most prevalent yet least understood. Symptoms recur without warning and include discomfort or pain in the bladder or groin.
4. Asymptomatic prostatitis. Since it has no symptoms, it will only be detected if your doctor is examining you for prostate cancer or infertility. The condition doesn?t necessarily indicate cancer.
Problems With Prostate Infection: What Symptoms to Expect
The first two types of prostatitis are associated with most problems with prostate infection.
In acute bacterial cases, infection and complications in other urinary tract areas is often observed, such as:
- Unnatural frequent urination
- Urgency to urinate
- Pain during urination
- Problems in creating a normal urine stream
- Genital pain or tenderness
- Pain during ejaculation
Problems with prostate infection in acute bacterial cases may begin when the patient gets chills and/or high fever. The patient may also feel tired all the time and have general feelings of being unwell.
When a patient with acute bacterial prostatitis goes in for an exam, the doctor will usually notice that the prostate has become irregular, warm, firm, and enlarged. The doctor will not normally perform too vigorous an exam lest problems with prostate infection spread to the bloodstream.
Chronic bacterial cases, on the other hand, are a leading cause of UTI in men. This happens because the same bacterial strain in the urine and the fluid of the prostate will cause problems with prostate infection to recur or persist.
Symptoms in chronic bacterial cases may be like those of acute bacterial ones, only less intense, plus:
- Lower back pain
- Testicular pain
- Tenderness of the penis
- Sexual dysfunction (impotence)
- Low fever
- Joint and muscle pain
A doctor?s exam may show urethral discharge and pain in other areas around the genitals.
Problems with prostate infection in chronic bacterial cases typically lead to depression and feelings of stress. It still isn?t known whether psychological symptoms cause these feelings or vice versa.
