Prostate Problems Symptoms ? Want To Know Some?

A lot of men consult prostate cancer questions and answers forum to clear their presumptions or even to know the prostate problems symptoms. Let us first know the background of prostate cancer and the parts of the body that will be affected if one has prostate cancer. This is actually a disease affecting the prostate. Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system. When one gets prostate cancer, there is prostate mutation.

When this happens prostate multiply uncontrollably. These cells which have multiplied will spread from the prostate to the other parts of the body. In most case, the cells spread to the bones and lymph nodes. Usually, when a man is affected by prostate cancer the prostate problems symptoms are that he will experience difficulty in urinating. What is difficult with this type of cancer is that there are no early signs of prostate cancer in men.

Commonly, people will consult a doctor when the disease is already severe. This is a bad practice. There should be a regular check up in order for one to know his health condition. As stated earlier, there are no early symptoms prostate cancer. The following are experienced when cancer cells have spread beyond the prostate: during night time, the persons urinates frequently; while urinating, there is difficulty in starting or stopping the urinary stream; weak or interrupted urinary stream; painful sensation during urination or ejaculation; and there is blood in urine or semen. However, research tells us that these are not symptoms of the cancer itself. They are only the symptoms of the blockage from the cancer growth within the prostate and surrounding tissues.

Signs of prostate cancer in men are evident when prostate cancer is advanced already. The symptoms include: dull, incessant deep pain or stiffness in the pelvis, lower back, ribs or upper thighs; arthritic pain in the bones of those areas; loss of weight and appetite, fatigue, nausea, or vomiting.

Generally, prostate cancer develops in men over the age of fifty. This is the most common cancer in men. Since there are no early symptoms prostate cancer, prevention is the best antidote. There are two main factors affecting the prostate, these are genetics and diet. The former runs in the blood but the latter can be adjusted or maintained. Eating the right kind and the right amount of food still leads to good health. Hence, proper diet aids people to have minimal ailments.

On the other hand, to detect prostate problems symptoms, physical examination, prostate specific antigen (PSA), or biopsy are recommended. If one is diagnosed with prostate cancer, he has to undergo further tests like CT scans and bone scans.

Here are pieces of advice to those who have prostate cancer, first, never take medicines without doctor’s prescriptions. Yes, there are new cancer drugs but these have to be taken under doctors advice. Second, if you find out that you have prostate problem symptoms, consult a doctor as to what to do and what medicines you need to take.

Take Your Prostate Health Seriously

Prostate health is a prominent nationwide concern for aging men. Apprehensions about prostate health are often overshadowed by other major health concerns facing society today. As a result, not enough attention is given to prostate health, often making it appear less significant than it actually is.

Men, in general, are reluctant to address prostate health. According to a national survey conducted by Food Nutrition, Inc, 46 percent of men are not at all concerned about their prostate health, or do not give it much thought. Concern for prostate health taken at the right stage in life can help you enjoy prostate health well into the senior years of your life.

If you are approaching your 40s, take the time and effort to understand prostate health concerns. A few practical tips will serve you in good stead.

Pay Attention to Your Diet
Most medical experts believe that diet plays a contributive role in the aging of the prostate gland. To protect prostate health, include more fruits, vegetables and fiber in your diet. Reduce intake of red meat and saturated fats. Studies show that prostate ailments are more prevalent in men residing in North America, Australia and northwest Europe and those who follow a predominantly “western” diet.

Foods and herbs that support prostate health are soybeans, avocados, wheatgrass, saw palmetto and pumpkin seeds. They contain nutrients like beta sitosterol, a phytosterol found in plants. There is a significant amount of convincing research that shows beta sitosterol as a star nutraceutical in supporting the healthy aging of the prostate gland while promoting healthy urinary flow and functions.

Practice Weight Management
Research shows that men who are overweight should be more concerned about prostate health than men who are at a healthy weight. If you are overweight, give some serious thought to losing weight. Lose those extra pounds—join a fitness center, purchase exercise DVDs—whatever works for you!

Understand the Effects of an Aging Prostate
Studies show that men are less inclined to deal with health matters, unless it is unavoidable. Women, on the other hand, are more well-read on health topics and are take a more proactive stance. The Internet is good place to start learning how an aging prostate can affect your health as you grow older.

Regular Exercise
A 30-minute exercise program every day can support healthy circulation. This helps to transport oxygen to all your organs, promoting their healthy functions.

Kegel exercises, in particular, strategically increase muscle tone in the area around the prostate gland. Ask your doctor about such exercises.

Prostate Checkups
An annual prostate checkup is recommended for men over 50. However, if you experience any prostate discomforts between checkups, it is advisable to consult with your doctor as soon as possible. Doctors may or may not choose to prescribe medication for an aging prostate.

Prostate Supplements with Beta Sitosterol
Research shows targeted nutrition for supporting prostate health may play a considerable role. Beta sitosterol is the key nutrient for supporting prostate health.

Prostate supplements, like Super Beta Prostate, contain a broad spectrum of prostate-specific nutrients, including a clinically relevant amount of beta sitosterol. Other nutrients include Vitamin D, zinc, selenium, copper and other minerals help support men’s health.

Minimally Invasive Surgery for an Enlarged Prostate Gland

Minimally Invasive Surgery for an Enlarged Prostate Gland

For a lot of men who are suffering from an enlarged prostate gland drug treatment is the solution and can lower prostate symptoms to an acceptable level. However, for others however drug treatment does not prove helpful or is not a workable choice and the doctor may suggest minimally invasive surgical treatment.

The first option to consider is catheterization which involves the insertion of a catheter through the penis and into the bladder to act as a drain and is usually considered to be only a temporary solution. It is largely used for people who are waiting for the affects of drug treatment to kick in (a number of drugs used to treat an enlarged prostate gland can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months before they begin to show results) or for other surgical treatments. It may also be helpful in treating infections.

The next option to consider is Holmium laser enucleation prostate (HoLEP). This procedure, which is performed under anesthetic and involves a brief 1 to 2 day stay in hospital, involves the insertion of a resectoscope through the penis and into the urethra. After insertion a laser beam is then passed through the resectoscope and is used to remove tissue from the prostate gland.

Interstitial laser coagulation is another treatment which is omparable to HoLEP. This form of treatment is once again performed under anesthetic although patients are not usually required to stay in hospital overnight. For this treatment a cystoscope, which is a metal tube through which a laser and visual lens can be passed, is used to burn away tissue from the prostate gland using laser energy.

Where a patient is unable to accept anesthetic a prostatic stent may be used. Stenting involves the placement of a spring-like device in the urethra at the point at which it passes through the prostate gland in order to keep the urethra open. Regrettably there are one or two problems associated with this form of treatment and it is generally only used for individuals who suffer from additional medical problems and for whom surgery presents an unacceptable.

TUMT (transurethral microwave thermotherapy of the prostate) is another form of minimally invasive surgery that does not require full anesthesia or hospitalization and can be performed using a local anesthetic and with oral pain drugs. In this procedure a catheter is inserted through the penis and computer controlled microwaves heat up and shrink areas of the prostate gland.

Yet another office-based procedure is the transurethral radio frequency needle ablation of the prostate (TUNA). In this case light anesthesia and drugs are employed to make the patient drowsy and prostate gland tissue is heated and shrunk using radio frequency energy which is transmitted through several needles placed directly into the prostate gland. This treatment at first produces a swelling of the prostate gland which is followed by shrinkage and individuals will generally have to use a catheter for a brief time following this treatment.

There are clearly many different forms of minimally invasive surgery available for enlarged prostate gland treatment and individuals must discuss these with their doctor to decide which would be best in their own specific circumstances.

Prostate Gland ? Causes, Treatment and Remedies

The prostate gland is about the size of a walnut and is found at the base of the bladder. A thin tube that allows the passage of urine out of the penis (urethra) runs through the prostate gland. Fluid produced by this gland helps to nourish and support sperm, which come from the seminal vesicles via the ejaculatory ducts into the urethra.

Prostate cancer is a disease in which the cells of the prostate become abnormal. They start to grow uncontrollably, forming tumors. A tumor is a mass or lump of tissue made of abnormal cells. Tumors may be malignant or benign. A malignant tumor can spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors are cancerous. Benign tumors cannot spread to other parts of the body.

Causes

Increasing age and the presence of normal male hormones (testosterone and dihydrotestosterone [DHT]) are the best-known factors that contribute to BPH. A hormone known as 5?-reductase converts testosterone into DHT in the prostate gland, which results in prostate enlargement. DHT concentrations in BPH tissue have been shown to be increased when compared with normal prostate tissue.

The actual cause of prostate enlargement is unknown. It is believed that factors linked to aging and the testicles themselves may play a role in the growth of the gland. Men who have had their testicles removed at a young age (for example, as a result of testicular cancer) do not develop BPH.

For some men, it suddenly becomes impossible to urinate (known as acute retention). Studies have shown that acute retention affects between 1 and 2 per cent of men with BPH each year. This condition is very painful and demands immediate medical treatment to avoid damage to the kidneys, among other things.

Treatment

The surgeon (urologist) must first prove that the prostatic enlargement is the cause of the symptoms. He may find it helpful to measure the urinary flow rate. This is a simple test: you pass urine into a large funnel and the time taken for a particular volume of urine to pass is calculated electronically. The urologist will also arrange an x-ray or ultrasound scan to make a picture of the bladder after an attempt at emptying. This will reveal whether the prostate is causing obstruction to the urethra. The ultrasound scan will also check that the kidneys are normal. In some hospitals, the size and the shape of the prostate can also be measured by ultrasound.

Medications

Alpha blockers. These drugs were originally developed to treat high blood pressure. They relax muscles around your bladder neck and make it easier to urinate. Four alpha blockers have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of BPH: terazosin (Hytrin), doxazosin (Cardura), tamsulosin (Flomax) and alfuzosin (Uroxatral).

Remedies

Pumpkin seeds are an effective home remedy for prostate problems and many patients have been helped by their use. These seeds are rich in unsaturated fatty acids which are essential to the health of the prostate. Persons beyond the age of fifty, who have any signs of prostate trouble; or those who suffer from urinary disorders of some kind, namely, burning or difficulty in passing urine freely, should take sixty to ninety grams of pumpkin steeds per day.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Prostate Problems

Ayurvedic Remedies for Prostate Problems

Prostate, the small organ below the urinary bladder in males has significant role to play in both- sexual activity and urination. It surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body and  produces seminal fluid discharged from penis during sexual stimulation. Prostate problems include the very common prostatitis- the inflammation of the prostate gland. Ayurveda recognizes two specific prostate problems-

Mootrakruchra – painful urination, and Mootraghaata – suppression of urination.

They are, in fact, symptoms of prostate problems.  Apart from these two main symptoms, other symptoms include problematic urine flow, dribbling, increased urination, hematuria (blood in urine), urinary tract infection and urinary retention.

Herbal Remedies for Prostate Gland Problems

Ayurveda suggests many herbs for the treatment of prostate gland problems:

Punarnava or Hog Weed (Boerhaavia diffusa) – It is useful in all urinary problems caused due to prostate ailments.

Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca scariola) -The bitter tonic of its leaves is very effective in treatment of enlarged prostate gland.

Shalaba mishri or Salep Orchid (Orchis mascula) – Useful where prostate problems are due to vata vitiation.

Gokshura or Small Caltrop (Tribulus terrestris) – This Indian herb, tribulus terrestris, is useful in treatment of urinary complications caused due to prostate problems. Its fruit is boiled in two cups of water till it is reduced to half the amount and drunk after mixing sugar in it.

Home Remedies for Prostate Gland Problems

Some remedies for prostate problems are available as common ingridients at home:

If having enlarged prostate, eat a mixture of juniper berries and parslane. Eat more tomatoes to avoid prostate infections. If experiencing prostate problems, have alternate cold and hot hip baths for about ten minutes daily.

Remaining sexually active is advisable but over indulgence is prohibited by ayurveda. Regular exercise, even walks or mild exercises are a must. Never suppress the urge to urinate. Don’t sit on a hard stool for longer periods. If doing desk job, get a soft ergonomic chair to sit on. Quit smoking and alcohol, especially if you are overweight. Taking these precautions will certainly keep the prostate problems at bay.

Stages of Prostate Cancer Growth that require prostate cancer surgery

Stages of Prostate Cancer Growth that require prostate cancer surgery

The male sexual health is not complete without the prostate gland. The storage of milky or white fluid called semen is a major function of the prostate gland. This gland also releases neutralizing liquid to counter the acidity around female vaginal tract which is inimical to sperm released during sexual intercourse. Without the released of this liquid, the reproductive process will be truncated and reproduction will not take place.

The prostate gland take different size at different stages of a male’s life .It can be likened to the size of a pea during infancy. It enlarges to the size of a walnut when a male clock 25. After age 25, the rate at which it enlarges varies although the growth continues. There are cases when the growth of this gland got to a stage that it starts obstructing normal urine flow. At such a point, one can conclude that the individual is suffering from a medical disorder known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It is indisputably correct to say that prostate cancer is a product of prostate gland enlargement and older men are the most vulnerable to this ailment.

The use of medications can be employed in the treatment of this medical disorder. If there is no positive development afterwards, then turn to prostate cancer surgery . Despite the risks that accompany most surgeries, there is one that is minimally invasive when it comes to treating prostate cancer. It goes by the name Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy . So if you think you have problems you should do something about it.
