Studies Show Lycopene is Ineffective For Enlarged Prostate
Studies Show Lycopene is Ineffective For Enlarged Prostate
Once an individual is diagnosed with having an enlarged prostate, there are several treatments available today. While some of these treatments are through a physician, some are also natural.
However, one of these natural remedies or treatments is known as saw palmetto. Scientifically, saw palmetto has the ingredient known as Lycopene. When men suffer from BPH or benign prostate hypertrophy, which is an enlarged prostate, the approach of natural treatments can sometimes be in vain.
Although Lycopene has some of the natural causes to reduce the pain or discomfort of an enlarged prostate, it will not cure the enlarged prostate as many individuals assume.
Studies have proven that in those individuals who have used Lycopene as a treatment, after a certain amount of time will no longer feel the Lycopene as easing the discomfort. Instead, the side effects cause more discomfort. For example, when urinating using Lycopene causes a burning sensation as well as having the enlarged prostate. The Lycopene does not reduce the size of the enlarged prostate whatsoever. These studies concluded that Lycopene, also known as saw palmetto, causes more discomfort to an individual, and more harm than good.
And yet, there are those individuals that insist the Lycopene is effective and useful for a healthy prostate. Unfortunately, that is the misconception. It is effective for a prostate, which is if the prostate is already healthy. The ingredients found in Lycopene, or saw palmetto, are natural ingredients or herbs that assist in the health of the prostate.
However, as far as reducing the size of an enlarged prostate it does not help according to research. In some situations, individuals who use Lycopene for longer periods of time with an already enlarged prostate literally cause the condition or discomfort to be worse. The conditions often tend to be more intense; frequent burning sensations when urinating, frequently urinating, abdominal pain, and other side effects.
Researchers are not telling individuals that Lycopene doesn’t aid in the health of a prostate. Rather, these researchers who have done several studies are telling individuals that Lycopene does not aid in the treatment of an enlarged prostate.
In addition, individuals that disagree with the studies and research have not used the Lycopene enough to feel or see the results from long-term use. However, according to these studies the effects will show eventually.
In very few cases did the Lycopene actually have any real impact on the enlarged prostate. The enlarged prostate already diagnosed by a physician is going to give the individual discomfort and pain. And studies show for a short time the Lycopene eases the discomfort, only to produce more discomfort after a long period of use.
These studies suggest that there are many alternatives for treatment of an enlarged prostate, and when an individual is diagnosed with an enlarged prostate the best suggestion is the advice of the physician. Lycopene is only temporary and has been proven ineffective for the enlarged prostate in many ways. There are several web sites and pamphlets that discuss the ineffectiveness of Lycopene for the enlarged prostate as well. This informs individuals who do have an enlarged prostate of the pros and cons of using Lycopene as treatment.

How to Proactively Support Your Prostate Health
How to Proactively Support Your Prostate Health
“Attention to health is life’s greatest hindrance.” Plato (427-347 B.C.).
Plato has succinctly captured the attitude of most men towards health. More than two and a half millennia later, surveys conducted show that most men pay little or no attention to their health needs.
According to “2009 Men’s Health Report: A Comprehensive Look at the Status of Men’s Health in Georgia,” men die early because of behavioral and lifestyle patterns.
According to a survey conducted by Lieberman Research Worldwide Prostate Cancer Foundation/Gillette Men’s Health Survey (2006) only 20 percent of the men over the age of 50 have ever discussed their family history or personal factors for prostate concerns with a doctor.
Unlike women, who are more informed about women’s health concerns, men hardly ever sit to talk about prostate health. And when they do experience prostate discomforts, they often don’t know which course of action to take and wind up doing nothing.
So here’s a heads up on prostate health! Men, pay attention!
Proactive Tips for Protecting Prostate Health
Lose the extra pounds! The heavier you are the more likely you will develop prostate issues, as well as other weight-related health issues. You can avoid all of these just by making sure you are the optimal weight you should be. Since this is an important factor for good health, consider joining a gym or a fitness center if you find it difficult to lose weight.
Move It! Exercise! Drop the creature comforts we are so used to! Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park your car as far from the entrance of shopping malls as you can. Buy a bicycle and use it for traveling short distances. Better yet, walk whenever you can instead of using the car. Go for a morning or evening walk or jog. Build up your exercise regimen so that you are getting at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week. For prostate health, ask your doctor about Kegel exercises.
Watch what you eat! Try to include plenty of vegetables in your daily diet, along with a healthy fiber intake (about 30 to 35 grams). A diet that is high in vegetable and grain intake is associated with higher incidence of good prostate health. Avoid fatty and fried foods, red meat, junk foods. Include foods like pumpkin seeds, avocadoes and walnuts which contain a blend of phystosterols, particularly beta sitosterol, which is a prominent natural substance for protecting prostate health.
Regular Check-ups and Prostate Screenings after the age of 40 will help you monitor prostate health and take early action.
Specific Natural Substances that Promote Prostate Health
There are prostate-specific natural substances that not only help to promote prostate health, but also support healthy urinary flow and functions. Beta sitosterol, is the key natural substance. Its efficacy is validated by scientific research and clinical trials. For over two decades, doctors in Europe have been successfully including beta sitosterol and other nutrients in a program for the patients of proactive protection of prostate health. Doctors and medical professionals have popularized the use of beta sitosterol as herbal support for promoting prostate health. There are no known harmful side effects and you’ll find sufficient research data on this subject on the Internet to help you make an informed decision about taking prostate supplements.
Your prostate supplement should include beta sitosterol and other essential nutrients such as Vitamin D, zinc, selenium and other minerals which play a vital role in maintaining the health of the prostate gland as well supporting men’s general health and wellbeing.

PROSTATE GLAND
PROSTATE GLAND
PROSTATE GLAND
A man’s prostate gland usually starts to enlarge after he reaches age 40 years or middle age. This condition is called Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). The prostate gland, which is normally about the size and shape of a walnut, wraps around the urethra between the pubic bone and the rectum, below the bladder. In the early stage of prostate enlargement, the bladder muscle forces urine through the narrowed urethra by contracting more powerfully. As a result, the bladder muscle becomes thicker and more sensitive, causing a need to urinate more often.
The prostate gland secretes a fluid that is discharged with sperm. The gland itself surrounds the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder out through the tip of the penis. As the prostate grows larger, it may press on the urethra. This narrowing of the urethra can cause some men with prostate enlargement to have trouble with urination. Prostate enlargement may be the most common health problem in men older than 60 years.
FUNCTION OF PROSTATE GLAND
The main function of the prostate gland is to store and produce seminal fluid. Seminal fluid is a milky liquid that nourishes sperm.
SYMPTOMS OF ENLARGED PROSTATE
Many men with an enlarged prostate have no symptoms. Common symptoms may include the following:
Difficulty starting urination
Dribbling of urine, especially after urinating
A sense of not emptying the bladder
Leaking of urine
More frequent urination and a strong and sudden desire to urinate, especially at night
Blood in the urine
CAUSES OF ENLARGED PROSTATE:
Prostate enlargement is caused by an imbalance in Vata dosha, it’s important to avoid Vata-aggravating foods. These include dry, cold, and light foods and bitter, astringent, and pungent tastes. Instead, favor the Vata-pacifying diet, which includes sweet, sour, and salty tastes and warm, oily foods.
The specific cause of most of these problems is unknown although they may be related to hormonal changes brought on by aging. As a man ages an increased amount of hormones such as estrogen and prolactin decrease the rate at which testosterone and the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) into which testosterone is converted by 5-alpha-reductase are eliminated from the prostate. This excessive accumulation of DHT is thought to be responsible for the problems of the prostate gland.
As the prostate grows larger and the urethra is squeezed more tightly, the bladder might not be able to fully compensate for the problem and completely empty. Rarely, blockage from prostate enlargement may cause repeated urinary tract infections and gradually result in bladder or kidney damage.

The Danger of Prostate Problems and How it Can Affect You Even if You are Healthy Now
The Danger of Prostate Problems and How it Can Affect You Even if You are Healthy Now
Statistics show that most men will develop prostate problems as they age. Most men have no problems with their prostate gland in their early years. Some time after their forty years, many men start to experience prostate problems. The problems can be uncomfortable. It is often benign but can be indicative of something very serious such as prostate cancer. Prostate is a fairly common cancer and it is hard to treat if not detected early. Fortunately, there are many tests for prostate gland and the serious problems can usually be cured.
Although these problems are not life threatening, they are certainly very inconvenient and annoying. The prostate gland sometimes becomes enlarged and squeezes on the urinary system. The men affected by an enlarged prostate gland find that they have an urge to urinate often but when they try to urinate, the urine stream is weak or not existent.
The good news is that there are health supplement products that can alleviate symptoms of benign enlargement and reduce the risk of prostate cancer. They are also highly effective in treating inflammation and enlargement of prostate. Such products often contain zinc, selenium, and beta-sitosterol. There may be other substances which are effective in promoting proper prostate functions. Some of these health supplements are marketed as herbal cure for prostate diseases.
Beta-sitosterol is a white plant sterol found in most plants. High levels of Beta-sitosterol are present in rice bran, wheat germ, soybeans and corn oils. Beta-sitosterol is also found in saw palmetto berries, which is used in many popular health supplement products to promote prostate health. There are studies which show that beta-sitosterol can reduce symptoms related to prostate enlargement.
Many nutritionists and naturopaths also recommend a good dose of vitamins to combat prostate diseases – specifically the anti-oxidant, vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Vitamin K.
There is an upsurge in the number of prostate health products in the market today. The correct diet supplemented by the right prostate health supplement products can work wonders. There are many health products with a good combination of vitamins, minerals and prostate herbs. These products can be used for both the promotion of prostate health and prevention of prostate cancer. However, there are many products which are mere masquerade of the real things, especially for many of the popular herbal products. You may check the ingredient on the bottle closely as well as the license and credentials of the manufacturer.
Though prostate health product is effective for promoting prostate and preventing many prostate diseases including prostate cancer, it is no substitute for health screening for early detection of prostate diseases. Remember, early detection and treatment of prostate cancer greatly increases the chance of recovery.

Question by davie: Prostate Problems?
I have asked a question last week with regards to Prostate Problems-but now have another!
For years I have had weight problems-I am not fat nor am I thin.
I can lose weight one week (few lbs) and the next week I can put it back on.
I do eat fairly healthy but I do eat junk at times-
With regards to my weight yo yo-ing do you think that this may be because I have prostate problems?
Or is it just my eating lifestyle-may need to change.
I do cycle twice a week. This amounts to only eight or nine miles. Which is not too much I know but there is on each journey a good climb up a fairly steep hill.
Any help thanks

I do not know what you mean by prostate. Usually those whe reach over about 60 years get problems of the prostate.
That is enlargement of the prostate. The early symptoms are delay in the flow of the urine stream, and later you get evidence of obstruction. Are you having any symptoms that you think are related to the prostate?
Check your weight and the height and if the BMR is within the normal range your weight should be ok.
You have to maintain doing exercises to keep yourself fit.
If you are 50 or above meet a doctor and get a full medical checkup done.

For Those With Prostate Cancer, Laparoscopic Prostatectomy May Be An Option
For Those With Prostate Cancer, Laparoscopic Prostatectomy May Be An Option
Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops and affects the prostate. Although the specific causes of prostate cancer still remain unknown, current research indicate that it is not related to benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.
Experts agree that there are predisposing factors such as hormonal influences, genetics and heredity as well as the environment, this is because of toxins and chemicals. Studies have also shown that although prostate cancer is extremely rare for those under 40, it is one of the leading causes of death from cancer among males over 60.
Prostate cancer screening is recommended for older men. A digital rectal scan and the prostate-specific antigen or PSA, may be ordered. A positive result or a result that may point to a positive finding usually leads to a biopsy.
Those who test positive for prostate cancer normally undergo tests to determine how far the disease has progressed. Often, several options are made available which should be discussed by both the doctor and patient. Most go through some form of active surveillance, wherein a certain amount of time is allowed to lapse before treatment is administered.
Traditional radiation therapy and chemotherapy as well as oral chemotherapeutic drugs are all viable options. Prostate cancer surgery is another conventional procedure. Those who are to undergo surgery should talk to their physicians about laparoscopic prostatectomy .
Because laparoscopic prostatectomy is minimally invasive, those who undergo this type of surgery can expect a shortened hospital stay, with less bleeding and have less need for pain medication.

The Prostate Cancer Primer
The Prostate Cancer Primer
There are many today who face the agony of cancer and in particular prostate cancer. It is a particularly serious form of cancer. For those who are successfully treated for this form of cancer and survive with nothing more than the battle scars of treatment should consider themselves very lucky.
Advance prostate cancer by its very name seems to suggest that the cancer is in an advanced and possibly incurable stage. This need not be the case. Understanding advance prostate cancer is a very important step towards fighting this vile disease. Although the range of treatments for such cancer may not be that wide, there is no need to lose hope at this stage. Chemotherapy, surgery and other treatments are may be effective in curing the cancer.
How It Develops
The prostate is a very important gland in human male body and it plays a decisive role in his reproductive mechanism. Once the prostate is infected with cancer, the cells begin to multiply uncontrollably and within no time it will infect various other parts of the body, including the bone and the lymph nodes. Prostate pain and difficulty to pass urine are often cited as early signs of cancer. Apart from these other discomforts may also trouble the patient.
Various Treatment Options To Improve Comfort
Unfortunately, it is a fact that prostate cancer may be fatal in many cases. False hopes should not be given to patients of such cancer. They should be told that there are a few treatment options available for a cure from the disease. So the focus for the patient suffering from prostate related cancer is to improve the quality and comfort of the patient’s remaining lifespan.
The first thing to be done after being diagnosed with prostate cancer is to get in touch with one’s loved ones and to discuss with them about your predicament. Be close with those people with whom you wish to be with so that you feel more comfortable and well cared for.
The main message that should be conveyed to the cancer patients is to live their remaining lives with as much dignity and peace as possible. Never loose your hope till the very end since medical science is advancing rapidly. A positive state of mind may help to stave off the agony of cancer and help prolong one’s lifespan.
Early Symptoms Of Prostate Cancer To Be Recognized
Detecting the early symptoms of cancer is very difficult since this illness normally does not cause visible signs or symptoms for many years. Known medically as Aden Carcinoma, prostate cancer is characterized by a cancerous tumor that develops on the prostate gland. This cancer is a leading cause of death in men. Early symptoms of cancer are typically discovered in men over the ages of fifty-five or older. You can asses if you are potentially at risk by studying hereditary, dietary and environmental factors. Detrimental factors that heighten the chances of contracting cancer include a sedentary lifestyle, heavy smoking, diets rich in saturated fatty acid, alcohol consumption, exposure to heavy metals and race.
Getting To Know The Early Symptoms Of Prostate Cancer
Prostate examination is the best way to spot cancer. Normally, prostate cancer does not show any specific symptoms. It unfortunately is detected after the cancer has spread to other internal organs. Sometimes early symptoms of cancer are detected. They include painful urination and ejaculation, interrupted or weak flow of urine and blood in the semen and urine, frequent urination especially at night or even difficulty in urination. Another symptom which develops usually is the pain and stiffness which is experienced in certain parts including the lower back, upper thighs, hips and pelvis. An important aspect to be understood is that these early symptoms of prostate cancer can also indicate a non-cancerous form of the condition.
Confirmation Of Early Symptoms of Cancer With Certain Tests
Early symptoms of prostate cancer could be detected by two modern methods. The first being the Digital Rectal Exam also known as DRE and the second is Prostate-Specific Antigen also known as PSA. Since the prostate gland is located in front of the rectum, the physician inserts a finger into the rectum for examination in case of DRE. This enables a relatively complete examination of the prostate gland, in particular for any kinds of lumps, bumps or other hard areas on the gland. If the answer is positive, further examinations are conducted to prove whether the gland is cancerous or not. In the case of PSA, the amount of prostate-specific antigen is tested in the patient’s blood. According to expert advice it is highly recommended to have a complete examination done, including both DRE and PSA when the individual becomes fifty.
Medical science has advanced to the stage where effective treatments are constantly being developed to improve the chances of full recovery from cancer. Nothing however beats early detection of cancer. Thus, every man is strongly advised to have his prostate gland checked during his annual medical check up starting from fifty years of age. For those men who may have a genetic predisposition to the illness should begin preemptive screening from his late forties. If any of the common symptoms are experienced do not hesitate to bring them to the attention of a doctor so that treatment can begin and arrest the growth of prostate cancer.
