Urine Test for prostate cancer Treatment in India

British scientists have developed “the first reliable test of whether men are at high risk of prostate cancer”, reported the Daily Mail. It said the test has so far proven to be twice as precise as the existing PSA test, and is of urine rather than blood, which would make it cheaper to perform.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, affecting 35,000 men in the UK a year, with 10,000 of those dying from the disease. This research shows that men with the disease have reduced levels of a protein called MSMB.

This is very early laboratory research, and it is too early to suggest that the test “offers hope to thousands”. It is still not known whether a test based on this research could improve prediction of prostate cancer risk, prostate cancer diagnosis or disease monitoring. Larger studies within the community are needed before we have a better idea of whether this test could be a useful addition to the existing tests for prostate cancer.

Where did the story come from?

The study was carried out by researchers from the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cambridge Research Institute and other research centres in the UK, US and Australia. It was funded by the University of Cambridge, CRUK, The Institute of Cancer Research, The Everyman Campaign, the EU, Hutchison Whampoa Limited and The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation. The study was published in the peer-reviewed open-access journal PLoS ONE.

The Daily Mail, The Guardian, BBC News and The Daily Telegraph covered this story. They suggest that the test may be able to identify people at greater risk of prostate cancer and could be part of a screening programme.

However, some of the reports may give the wrong impression of how developed this test is. The research is still at an early stage, and it is not known whether this protein can be used to detect those at greater risk of prostate cancer, or how long it will take to become commercially available. There is much more work to be done on this test.

What kind of research was this?

The researchers say that previous genetic studies have identified a particular single letter genetic variation within a gene called MSMB that is more common in people with prostate cancer.

Which form of this single letter (nucleotide) variation, called rs10993994, a person carries has been found to affect how active their MSMB gene is. The form of the variation that is linked with prostate cancer (called the ‘high risk allele’) causes the MSMB gene to be less active than it normally would be. The MSMB gene produces a protein called microseminoprotein-beta (MSMB), which is the second most abundant protein in semen after prostate serum antigen (PSA).

About 30 to 40% of men of European descent carry the high-risk allele, and 70 to 80% of men of African descent. However, not all men carrying the high-risk allele will develop prostate cancer. Previous studies have suggested that men who carry one copy of the high-risk allele are 1.3 times more likely to develop prostate cancer than those with no copies of the high-risk allele.

The researchers were interested in further investigating the role that MSMB might play in prostate cancer, and whether the high-risk allele influenced this role. They were also interested in seeing whether MSMB could be used to differentiate between men with and without prostate cancer. In this study, they looked at levels of MSMB protein in prostate tissue and in urine samples from men with or without prostate cancer.

This sort of research is an appropriate way to start investigating whether a variation identified in genetic studies has an

effect on the disease in question. The diagnostic portion of this study should be considered to be preliminary, as much more research would be needed to support its usefulness as a diagnostic test.

What did the research involve?

The researchers first looked at the MSMB protein in benign and malignant prostate cancer tissue samples, and whether this varied in people with the high-risk form of rs10993994. As each person carries two copies of rs10993994, they also looked at whether having one or two copies of the high-risk allele affected levels of MSMB protein in the prostate. They then
looked at levels of the MSMB protein in urine samples, and whether this was related to levels of prostate serum antigen (PSA) in the urine, the presence or absence of prostate cancer, rs10993994 allele, and age at onset of prostate cancer.

The researchers also looked at whether levels of the MSMB protein was more accurate than PSA in telling apart urine samples from men with prostate cancer and men without prostate cancer.

The researchers used tissue, blood and urine samples collected from about 336 men with prostate cancer who had biopsies taken or their prostates removed at two UK hospitals between 1995 and 2008. They also used samples obtained from about 215 men taking part in another research study, who did not have prostate cancer or only had benign prostate lesions.

Varying numbers of men could be included in the different analyses, depending on what samples had been collected and the quality of these samples. For example, the tissue samples of 168 prostate cancer patients were examined under the microscope, while samples from 145 prostate cancer patients could be assessed to see which form of the rs10993994 variation they carried. Eighty-nine prostate cancer patients provided tissue, DNA and a urine sample.

What were the basic results?

Levels of MSMB protein were much lower in cancerous prostate tissue than normal prostate tissue. They were also reduced in a type of early pre-cancerous prostate lesion called prostatic intra-epithelial neoplasia (PIN) compared with normal prostate tissue.

Men who carried two copies of the high-risk rs10993994 allele had the lowest levels of MSMB protein in their prostate tissue. Those who carried no copies of the high-risk rs10993994 allele had the highest levels of MSMB protein in their prostate tissue.

The researchers then compared the levels of MSMB in urine samples from 89 men with prostate cancer and 215 men without prostate cancer. Men with prostate cancer had higher levels of MSMB protein in the urine than men without cancer.

Assessing levels of the MSMB protein in the urine was better at differentiating between men with and without cancer in this sample than assessing PSA levels. This was true for tumours of all different levels of aggressiveness (as measured by the Gleason score).

How did the researchers interpret the results?

The researchers concluded that the rs10993994 high-risk allele, which was identified by using genome-wide association methods, does have an effect on the prostate and prostate cancer. They say that they have provided “the first link” between such a genetic variation for prostate cancer and a potential test for use in human tissue and bodily fluids.
The researchers also say, “there is potential to develop tissue and urinary MSMB for a biomarker of prostate cancer risk, diagnosis and disease monitoring”.

Conclusion

This early research has found that MSMB protein levels in the urine vary between men with and without prostate cancer. Much more research will be needed to determine whether these findings can be used as the basis for improved detection of prostate cancer risk, prostate cancer diagnosis or disease monitoring.

When developing a diagnostic test, many factors have to be considered and tested. These include:

•Is the test accurate?

•How well does the test differentiate between those with and without the disease, or those at higher risk of the disease from those at lower risk?

•If the test is for predicting the likelihood of developing a disease, what can be done for those at higher risk? If there are no known ways of reducing a person’s risk, knowing that they were at higher risk might not be helpful.

•When used in practice, does the test improve people’s outcomes, e.g. reducing the likelihood of developing the disease or dying from the disease?

Better ways of detecting and monitoring prostate cancer are needed, and this research may well contribute to the development of these. However, it is too early to suggest that this study has already solved these problems and “offers hope to thousands”.

Fruits And Veggies Is A Healthy Diet For Prostate Cancer Patients

As Men age excess testosterene is converted to hst which causes male pattern ballness in men.

Therefore, prostate cancer may be the most preventable type of cancer (following smoking-related lung cancers).

There has recently been a large amount of research and investigation into prostate cancer. These studies examine the use of certain nutrients and their ability to prevent and actually treat prostate cancer.

These nutrients include: calcium D-glucarate, selenium, broccoli, green tea, maitake, and lycopene.

The prostate is awalnut sized organ in the man’s reproduction system which makes and stores seminal fluid to be used in semen.

The prostate gland is a walnut sized organ that grows and grows until it causes a pletra of problems in men. Although early prostate cancer does not often cause any symptoms, many symptoms of prostate cancer are also symptoms of other prostate problems, including infection or benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate enlargement due to age-related changes).

If you or a man you know has any of the following symptoms, see a health care professional for evaluation: difficulty starting urination and holding back urine, inability to urinate, painful ejaculation, and/or blood in urine or semen are all symptoms of a enlarged prostate.

Age is the biggest factor associated with prostate cancer as most prostate cancers occur in men over the age of 65. If a man’s father or brother has prostate cancer, his risk of getting it is over 80%. African-Americans are at a higher risk, along with mechanics, farmers, sheet metal workers, and those exposed to cadmium.

Prostate cancer is ordinarily diagnosed through a digital rectal exam, in which a doctor inserts a gloved finger into the rectum and feels the prostate through the rectal wall, checking for hard or lumpy areas.

Blood tests for prostate-specific antigens (PSA) are also used. This consists of a lab measuring the levels of prostate-specific antigens in a blood sample as the level may rise in men who have prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or an infection in the prostate.

However, these tests will only determine if there is a problem with the man’s prostate gland. They can not determine if the problem is cancer A biopsy is needed to reveal the presence of actual prostate cancer.

Some of these help men’s bodies work more effectively some keep cancer cells from growing, and others actually kill prostate cancer cells.

Some of these help men’s bodies work more effectively some keep cancer cells from growing, and others actually kill prostate cancer cells.

Each day we are exposed to cancer-causing chemicals and toxins coming in part from contaminants in the food we eat and pollutants in the air we breathe.

Natural toxins, which are produced in our bodies, can be produced through excess hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, and can cause cancer when they are no longer needed.

Cancer-causing chemicals initiate cancer, but more importantly can cause existing cancers to grow bigger, stronger, and more deadly.

Toxins are bound in the liver to a chemical called glucoronic acid. Research has discovered that an increase in glucuronidase activity in the body is linked with prostate cancer.

Calcium D-glucarate assists our bodies in keeping harmful toxins and chemicals bound to glucuronic acid. It has also been shown to stop prostate cancer growth and help rid the body of toxic chemicals and excess hormones that could stimulate cancer formation.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral found in the soil. It exists in plant foods like oatmeal and meats that we eat. Selenium is a major antioxidant. It slows down aging, keeps our skin flexible, and helps prevent dandruff. Selinium is a formidable oxidant that help get rid of toxins and free radicals that feeds prostate cancer.

But, some of selenium’s most powerful effects are on the prostate gland. A recent study showed that selenium can cut the rate of prostate cancer by 63%. The results of this study were so impressive that it has led to many other studies of selenium and prostate cancer.

In fact, researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center and the Arizona College of Public Health in Tucson are currently studying the effect of selenium on prostate cancer in four ongoing clinical trials.

For many years, scientists have observed that those who eat broccoli have been shown to have a lower risk of getting prostate cancer. The sulforaphane found in broccolu releases certain enzymes that retard the growth of prostate cancer cells.

Many lab experiments have showed that prostate cancer cells exposed to sulforaphane ceased to grow by up to 80 percent.

A potent plant substance found in green tea, EGCG, has been demonstrated to be a very effective killer of prostate cancer cells. EGCG can stop the growth of prostate cancer dead in its tracks. Red wine and cruciferous vegetables, which are known cancer killers, have the same chemical structure as EGCG.

Maitake mushrooms, also called dancing mushrooms, contain an important compound called D-fraction.

A recent study at New York Medical College showed that maitake D-fraction destroyed 95% of human prostate cancer cells in lab experiments.

Saw Palmetto is normally consumed in pill or tincture form. Some of these help men’s bodies work more effectively some keep cancer cells from growing, and others actually kill prostate cancer cells.

In men, testosterone is a natural occurring hormone that as a man age their testosterone converts to DHT. DHT is the cause of male pattern baldness and is the reason most men get enlarged prostate which leads to prostate cancer.

Saw palmetto’s active constituents seek out the same receptor sites DHT sits on in tissue and can displace DHT. Slowing the growth of the prostate and or shrinking the prostate allowing better urine flow.

Lycopene is involved in some of the most exciting nutritional news in relation to prostate health. This carotenoid is mainly found in tomatoes. Men who eat lots of cooked tomatoes have very low rates of prostate cancer.

Because promising preliminary reports show that lycopene can actually kill prostate cancer cells, there has been an explosion of lycopene and prostate cancer studies. In one of these studies, 32 prostate cancer patients ate a pasta meal covered with three-fourths cup of tomato sauce every day for three weeks. Results showed their PSA levels dropped two points. Even signs of DNA damage dropped sharply.

The saw palmetto berry contains all the phytonutrients and active sterols that help control the size of your prostate.

Be sure the formula you buy contains calcium d-glucarate, saw palmetto, lycopene, selenium, broccoli standardized to contain a minimum of 125 mcg sulforaphane, green tea, and maitake mushroom extract because standardized ingredients provide consistently effective nutrients.

Along with this, adopting a healthy diet including 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily and several servings of whole grain cereals and bread, reducing red meat consumption to 2-3 servings per week and adding tomato-based foods can help to protect men from prostate cancer.

Those men who are 50 years and older should have a digital rectal exam and PSA test each year. Make sure to discuss with your health care professional to determine how frequently these tests should be done.

Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops and affects the prostate. Although the specific causes of prostate cancer still remain unknown, current research indicate that it is not related to benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.

Experts agree that there are predisposing factors such as hormonal influences, genetics and heredity as well as the environment, this is because of toxins and chemicals. Studies have also shown that although prostate cancer is extremely rare for those under 40, it is one of the leading causes of death from cancer among males over 60.

Prostate cancer screening is recommended for older men. A digital rectal scan and the prostate-specific antigen or PSA, may be ordered. A positive result or a result that may point to a positive finding usually leads to a biopsy.

Those who test positive for prostate cancer normally undergo tests to determine how far the disease has progressed. Often, several options are made available which should be discussed by both the doctor and patient. Most go through some form of active surveillance, wherein a certain amount of time is allowed to lapse before treatment is administered.

Traditional radiation therapy and chemotherapy as well as oral chemotherapeutic drugs are all viable options. Prostate cancer surgery is another conventional procedure. Those who are to undergo surgery should talk to their physicians about laparoscopic prostatectomy .

Because laparoscopic prostatectomy is minimally invasive, those who undergo this type of surgery can expect a shortened hospital stay, with less bleeding and have less need for pain medication.

Stages of Prostate Cancer Growth that require prostate cancer surgery

The male sexual health is not complete without the prostate gland. The storage of milky or white fluid called semen is a major function of the prostate gland. This gland also releases neutralizing liquid to counter the acidity around female vaginal tract which is inimical to sperm released during sexual intercourse. Without the released of this liquid, the reproductive process will be truncated and reproduction will not take place.

The prostate gland take different size at different stages of a male’s life .It can be likened to the size of a pea during infancy. It enlarges to the size of a walnut when a male clock 25. After age 25, the rate at which it enlarges varies although the growth continues. There are cases when the growth of this gland got to a stage that it starts obstructing normal urine flow. At such a point, one can conclude that the individual is suffering from a medical disorder known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It is indisputably correct to say that prostate cancer is a product of prostate gland enlargement and older men are the most vulnerable to this ailment.

The use of medications can be employed in the treatment of this medical disorder. If there is no positive development afterwards, then turn to prostate cancer surgery . Despite the risks that accompany most surgeries, there is one that is minimally invasive when it comes to treating prostate cancer. It goes by the name Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy . So if you think you have problems you should do something about it.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and thought that prostate cancer treatment was the only option

Nobody wants to hear the one of the scariest words come out of their physicians mouth, “cancer”. The mere thought of having cancer itself can be one of the scariest prospects you will face but if you are diagnosed with prostate cancer take a breath as there are many treatments available.

After you have allowed yourself to allow the thought of having a cancer sink in, start to educate yourself on treatments as there are choices with great success. What prostate cancer treatment is in sight for you can only be decided by you, your family and your physician. Prostate surgery is one choice and includes treatments; such as, a radial protatectomy or radioactive seed implantation, which is not as scary as it sounds. Removing the prostate completely or using the iodine “seeds” placed in the prostate may be right for you.

If prostate surgery isn’t the answer, another prostate cancer treatment are injections. Some of these injections are Eligard, Lupron and Zoladex. These injections can be given on a three to six month basis and it is a hormone based injection as prostate cancer feeds off of the testosterone. There are also implant devices which can be put in during an office visit which goes under the first layer of the skin and are left there for a year. This is a great option if you do not wish to have surgery but can not make quarterly or biannual injection visits.

Explore your options and choose what fits you best.

Question by Sylow M: Prostate cancer ?
I want to know about prostate cancer and what constitutes the optimal form of treatment for patients with clinically localized cancers remains controversial. Can anyone give more information on it?
Thanks in advance.

Best answer:

Answer by jaya r
Treatment decisions are at present made on the basis of tumor grade and stage and the age and health of the patient. Although selected patients may be candidates for surveillance based on age or health and the presence of small-volume or well-differentiated cancers, most patients with an anticipated survival in excess of 10 years should be considered for treatment with irradiation or surgery. Both radiation therapy and radical prostatectomy allow for acceptable levels of local control. A randomized trial comparing watchful waiting and radical prostatectomy in men with clinically localized prostate cancer is currently under way in the united states (PIVOT: Prostate Cancer Intervention Versus Observation Trial). This trail will randomize 2000 patients and will run for 15 years. Patients need to be advised of all treatment options (including surveillance) along with their particular benefits, risks, and limitations.

You’ve tested positive so here is what to expect in your prostate cancer treatment

Prostate cancer is most common in men over 50 years old. By age 80 it is estimated that 80% of men will have had prostate cancer.

Although these symptoms are not unique to prostate cancer they indicate that it is time for a check-up. These symptoms include trouble urinating or frequent urges, pain or burning when urinating, blood in the urine or semen, pain in the back, hips or pelvis or painful ejaculation.

When a positive diagnosis is made there are several common steps to prostate treatment .

The first determination is to find if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Possible tests may include a bone scan, CT scan, MRI or a needle biopsy. These test help to determine the Gleason scale number which rates how likely the cancer cells are to spread. Prostate treatment will be determined by this score, your age and general health.

For tumors that have not spread beyond the prostate a wait and see approach may be indicated for a slow growing tumor. For a faster growing cancer radiation therapy or a type of prostate surgery call radical prostatectomy may be implemented. There is the possibility that the doctor will determine a less invasive surgery is possible.

A hormone treatment may be also be recommended. This lessens the amount of male androgens that are produced. This will eventually cause the tumor to shrink.

As with any cancer prevention is the best treatment. Know your risks and have regular check-ups to prevent the need for prostate cancer treatment.

If Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer-Common Prostate Cancer Treatment

When a person is diagnosed with prostate cancer, the treatment options will depend on many important factors. These include the rate of cancer growth, if metastasis has occurred, the person’s overall health and the side effects or risks of the prostate cancer treatment. In some cases, if caught in its early stages, treatment may not be required immediately or perhaps no treatment will ever be needed. Of course the patient must be watched closely and regular examinations are required.

If tests reveal the progression of cancer, prostate treatment will be necessary. A common treatment choice is radiation. Radiation therapy consist of using energy that is high-powered to kill the cancer cells. It can be delivered externally with a machine that moves over the affected area of the body, and sends energy rays to the cancer. This treatment is usually given five times a week and must be done for several weeks. When radiation is put inside of the body, it is done with several rice-sized seeds that are radioactive and are placed within the tissues of the prostate. This technique sends low dosages of radiation to the affected site, for long periods of time.

Another prostate cancer treatment option is hormone therapy. This treatment aims at stopping the body from producing testosterone. Since prostate cancer cells need testosterone to grow, stopping the supply of this hormone can slow the progression, and may also kill cancer cells. Prostate surgery is sometimes required to remove cancer cells. This surgery involves the removal of the prostate gland along with the tissue around the gland and lymph nodes. There are other treatments also available today such as Cryosurgery, Chemotherapy and heat therapy.

Question by persianchick99: Prostate Cancer?
I did not know what to make of this mornings news. A mixture of emptiness (not knowing what to think) and shock still pains my insides. My childhood crush, who I haven’t seen in over 2 years is possibly dying from prostate cancer. It has spread to his stomach.
I would like to ask if it is common among young men (20),
and if genetics plays a major role?
(He’s father died of prostate cancer before he was born.)
Does he have any chances of survival?

Best answer:

Answer by cattbarf
The prognosis for survival is not good. That your friend’s father also died (say under 40), suggests that genetics is involved.

Generally, postrate problems in men occur when they reach their 50s, and they are encouraged to be tested for PSA and have postrate examinations, generally every six months.

PROSTATE CANCER

If the person is found to be positive for Prostate Cancer; then, a plan is discussed for Prostate cancer treatment and or Prostate surgery. The outcomes of intricate and detailed fndings from PET Scans, MRI’s and other imaging tests verify the extent and location of the tumors.

MEANS FOR PROSTATE CANCER TREATMENT

1) The primary physician oversees the patient’s condition.

2) An oncologist and or radiologist join the health care team and devise a plan.

A. Radiation is one form of Prostate treatment for Cancer. The patient receives doses that are prescribed according to the size, type and location of the tumor. These rays tend to kill the tumor without hurting other organs around it.

B. Therapies using hormones – Some patients undergo treatment with certain hormones that work either alone or with other means to keep the Cancer from spreading.

C. Seed Implants – Are not as invasive as regular surgery but inject some radiation seeds into the Prostate area. The patient also gets to go home on the same day and has few if any side effects.

D. Surgery – A more invasive way of helping the patient that is diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. This is not as popular because of the need for anesthesia and a longer hospital stay and recouperation. It removes the entire Prostate.

There are side effects such as incontinence, lack of sexual drive and sometimes depression. These are also simultaneously treated through medical counseling and or medications.

Prostate Cancer is a very common Cancer in males and can be treated when diagnosed at an early stage. It also needs careful upkeep of care after the diagnosis and the appropriate Prostate treatment.

Receiving the diagnosis of prostate cancer can be overwhelming. Thankfully though there are many different options for prostate cancer treatment . These range from active surveillance to prostate surgery .

Active surveillance is advised for people with a low grade, low risk prostate cancer. It may also be suggested for men who have a limited life expectancy or those with multiple high risk diseases. While undergoing active surveillance, the PSA blood test, rectal exam and biopsies will be performed periodically. If the cancer grows then further treatment may be necessary.

Prostate cancer treatment is a viable option for men with prostate cancer in its early stages before it may have moved to other parts. The surgery will remove the prostate through an incision in the abdomen. Then the bladder will be attached to the urethra where the prostate previously was to enable normal urinary function.

Another possible prostate treatment is radiation. Radiation therapy is designed to kill off the cancerous cells and can be used as an initial treatment or for recurrent or advanced cancer. Radiation treatment has become much more effective and precise with the advances in science. There are different types of radiation that can be used such as external beam radiation therapy, proton therapy and brachytherapy.

There are many other treatment options for prostate cancer such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy, cryotherapy and high intensity focused ultrasound. Speaking with your doctor, you will be able to decide what type of treatment will best fit your life and your type of cancer.

Prostate surgery is a form of prostate treatment and includes prostate cancer surgery

As men age, prostate problems increase resulting in the need for prostate treatment and often prostate surgery. Surprisingly many men who have prostate problems do not have prostate cancer but need screening to determine if prostate cancer treatment is needed. Looking at the prostate and the diseases which affect it will explain why.

The prostate gland is a walnut size gland which surrounds the male urethra or tube from the bladder to the outside just below its junction to the base of the bladder. As a man ages, the prostate can increase in size due to a condition called benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH. Only a doctor can determine from an examination and blood tests if the enlargement is due to BPH and not prostate cancer. All men forty years and older should undergo yearly prostate examination.

Since BPH can decrease and even completely cut off the flow of urine, prostate treatments are often needed to increase urine flow and decrease prostate size. Medical therapy can accomplish this in many cases. In some cases of BPH, prostate surgery is needed to reduce the size of the prostate and increase urine flow.

If prostate cancer is suspected, prostate biopsies are preformed either through the rectum or through a type of minimally invasive prostate treatment known as a transurethral prostatectomy. If any of the tissue removed reveals prostate cancer, prostate cancer treatment can be undertaken. Prostate cancer treatment includes the total removal of the prostate and surrounding tissues and/or radiation therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Prostate cancer is cancer of the small gland in men that creates the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. It is also the 2nd most common type of cancer among men in the US and is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages.

Prostate cancer typically occurs in older men and is seldom found in men under the age of 40. It occurs in 1 out of 6 men and when confined to the gland is usually treated successfully.

RISK: Every man is at risk for developing prostate cancer. Along with being male, there are other risk factors, such as age, race, and family history that may contribute to the overall risk. Men at greater risk include African-America men over 60,farmers, tire plant workers, painters, and men exposed to cadmium. The risk for developing it rises significantly with age, and 60 percent of recently diagnosed cases occur in men over the age of 70.

The greatest risk factor is age. This risk increases significantly after the age of 50 in white men who have no family history of the disease and after the age of 40 in black men and men who have a close relative with the disease. Having a brother with prostate cancer appears to increase your risk more than having an affected father does. That risk is even higher when there are multiple family members affected.

SYMPTOMS: May include Painful urinatian, difficulty starting or stopping the stream, or dribbling, Low back pain, Pain while ejaculating. A large number of men experience no symptoms; the first indicator that they may have prostate cancer is often an abnormal finding on a routine screening exam. Symptoms are more likely to appear as the cancer grows.

TREATMENT: Can include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or control of hormones that affect the cancer. Treatment frequently depends on the stage of the cancer. The appropriate treatment is very often controversial.

Surgery is usually only recommended after thorough evaluation and discussion of available treatment options. Chemotherapy is often used to treat prostate cancers that are resistant to hormonal treatments. A radical prostatectomy is often recommended for treatment of stages A and B.

CONCLUSION: Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in males of all ages and is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over the age of 75. Often there are no signs of the disease in its early stages. If it has spread, it may be treated with drugs to decrease testosterone levels, surgery to remove the testes, or drugs.

Although no single treatment can offer guarantees for success, the combination of various alternative medicines, as well as improvements in overall health is certainly worth trying for most patients.
While modern medicine has continued to improve standard surgical techniques to treat prostate cancers, these also has been a growing body of research into alternative prostate cancer treatments which may provide effective options at a lower financial commitment and risk. What is important about non traditional methods is that they treat the patient and not just the disease – these treatments understand that the a proper recovery requires both physical, mental and emotional stamina.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer, has overtaken lung cancer as the leading cancer affecting all men and followed by colorectal cancer. Annually, one out of six American men will develop it in the course of his lifetime. More than 27,000 deaths due to prostate cancer are expected to occur annually. One new case every 2 1/2 minutes. One new case every 150 seconds. It is estimated that by 2012, the number of new cases in the U.S. is expected to increase to more than 300,000 new cases per year by 2012.

What causes prostate cancer? The world around you. Why farmers? There are several reasons that farmers might have a higher risk of prostate cancer than other occupations. Another possible reason to the answer What causes prostate cancer in terms of those in the farm industry is engine exhaust.

I have seen many patients following a prostatectomy who are very distressed by their inability to resume normal intimacy. Yet frequently, at the time of diagnosis, these patients did not view impotence as a major concern when they made their choice of treatment. A traditional radical prostatectomy is undertaken using wide margins around the prostate, damaging the nerves which control the blood supply to the reproductive organ.

A very deceptive cancer that affects the prostate, does not start early, but does grow fast once it does start. Prostate cancer affects men and their intimate performance as well as the other reproductive functions. However, this procedure does take your ability to perform, which leaves many with psychological problems. This method of treatment is not backed by any medical profession, but mostly by believers in herbal cures.

First off, it is well known that men and women around the world have separate and distinct medical problems. With women it is breast cancer. It may not be as common as in women but breast cancer is found in men as well. With males it is an equally undesirable cancer, that of the prostrate. Prostate cancer is affecting an increasing number of men and has become an extremely talked about subject amongst them.

I don’t doubt that a great deal of prostrate cancer research will have to be carried out before an effective cure can be found, perhaps for now prevention is all we can hope for. Like most men, the thought of contacting cancer fills me with dread. I don’t doubt that like me, most men haven’t got it on their minds all day long. In fact, I don’t normally think about during the course of the day unless I hear it mentioned by someone or see it featured somewhere. In fact watching the television is probably the worst reminder because of the number of adverts relating to breast and prostrate cancer.

I don’t doubt that a great deal of research in both cancers, both prostrate and breast cancer will still need to be done in the future. A cure for cancer cannot come too soon as it is probably the worst torments that humankind has to face. The fact that you cannot inoculate against it or avoid it completely makes it an awful adversary.

Sure, you can eat healthy, exercise and live right, but that doesn’t mean you won’t acquire cancer. Many other headline conditions are preventable, including HIV, s it is unfair to mention them in the same company as cancer. You don’t have to put yourself at risk and get it, it’s avoidable. Research is now available for all to see on cancer or almost any subject.

This is one way to keep on top of breast and prostate cancer research because you can see what is currently going on with treatments and breakthroughs. Research is the key and given time, funds and persistence all this investigation and analysis will provide the world with a cure.

While most people are used to hearing about radiation as the main form of cancer treatment, there is another one surfacing. It has been found that oxygen and the development of tumor cells have formed a direct link in the body. Studies have accomplished the ability to reduce the risk of developing cancer by oxygenating the tumor cells. It’s an excellent cancer treatment that can improve your standard radiation therapy on various malignancies over time. Best of all you will only experience the minimal side-effects out there.

Also known as H2o2, Hydrogen peroxide is one of the most often studied alternative cancer treatment. Even though you won’t find it recognized by the FDA or AMA, research has shown that the infusion of hydrogen peroxide gives off a positive metabolic effect and actually oxidizes various physiological substances. In doing so, it promotes a healthy growth of tissue and increases the oxygen tension of the cells. When it’s all said and done, this treatment hinders the growth of tumors and even it’s development. While radiation is still the number one fight against cancer, this step has several unwanted side effects that come along with it. However, hydrogen peroxide gives you a safer way to cure cancer.

Oddly enough, the research behind hydrogen peroxide dates as far back as the 19th century. Back then it was being used as a form of treatment for people who has tuberculosis and syphilis. So many years later, it’s hard to believe that those documented treatments have helped the solution evolve like it has today. It’s hard to believe that if we had just kept progressing in this area back then, we may have a full proof cure today. In fact, if it wasn’t for the pharmaceutical industry flourishing, things may have been different. Regardless, hydrogen peroxide is becoming the new way to combat cancer. If you need a scientific explanation, H2o2 can be split into several molecules. When the process is complete you will be left with one oxygen atom. However, the environment and other finding in areas like processed foods have damaged the oxidative metabolism process of the cells in many individuals. You wind up with an inferior energy among the cells that simply isn’t healthy. Eventually cancer cells develop and you end up spending the next 8-10 months in the hospital or worse. The goal is to boost blood oxygen levels and kill any cancer cell development. Unfortunately it’s a lot easier said then done.

H2O2 can split into molecules a molecule of water, leaving you one oxygen atom. The toxins delivered by adulterated processed foods as well as environmental factors typically damage the oxidative metabolism of cells. This causes the regression to anaerobic metabolism and inferior energy among the cells. This condition is usually leads to the development of cancer cells. Hence, integrating additional oxygen atoms to normal oxidative metabolism boosts blood oxygen levels, which kills and prevents the development of cancer cells. Hydrogen peroxide cancer treatment kills cancer cells and reduces the size of tumors by supplying them with more oxygen than they can tolerate.

Soaking the affected body part with hydrogen peroxide separates the body from the deadly effects of cancer cells. Though the task seems easy, it actually requires special skills and techniques to be done correctly. Just like in any other cancer treatment, administering hydrogen peroxide cancer treatment needs expert hands to optimize its benefits and minimize possible side-effects.

We suggest speaking to a certified medical practitioner that specializes in hydrogen peroxide cancer treatment. They aren’t easy to find, but if you can then you’re already a step ahead of the game. See, H2o2 providers have spent years on the subject and know all the ins and outs of the process. If you have to put your life in someone else’s hands, let it be the most qualified individual possible.

Network marketing is one of the biggest businesses on the Internet today. It is the way that millions of people are finding a great amount of success and making a fortune in their own businesses today. Those involved in network marketing are helping others to realize their business success through training and coaching. There is a lot of work involved in network marketing but the rewards can be staggering.

Not everyone succeeds in this business. In fact, more than ninety five percent of people involved in MLM network marketing will fail. There are a number of reasons for this high rate of failure and as long as you are aware of these reasons, it will help you to avoid the problems and pitfalls with network marketing.

The primary reason why most people fail, boils down to a lack of relevant research. In other words, the vast majority simply don’t bother investigating the type of work which network marketing involves. Before you even start you need to be aware of what will be expected of you, such as prospecting and the task of finding other marketers who’ll be willing to participate in your business. Sure, you can sell some products and generate an income and there’s nothing wrong with that, but you need to realize that selling an idea, is a completely different ball game. Essentially, if you’re not willing to, or if you’re unable to get others to join your venture, then I’m afraid you have virtually no chance of success.

A great marketing coach once told his students that they should never see failure as being failure, but rather as an opportunity to improve themselves, and this applies to rejection as well. So many people starting out are ill prepared for the inevitable rejection they’ll face on a daily basis and as a result, they throw in the towel. Rejection goes hand in hand with network marketing so providing you don’t see rejection as being rejection, buy rather as being a step closer to acceptance, you’ll remain unscathed when you face rejection in the beginning.

Yet another aspect, of which so many people aren’t aware, is the fact that network marketing will require an investment. As with any business, you’ll need to have a budget, irrespective of whether or not it’s only a small budget. As your business expands and starts to generate an income, you can gradually increase it.

It simply cannot be stressed enough just how important network marketing training is in this line of work. By having the necessary knowledge, you’ll be thoroughly prepared for the many pitfalls you’ll encounter along the way so you’ll be able to steer well clear of them. Furthermore, you’ll also learn about all the very latest techniques and strategies being used in the field and for anyone wanting to succeed, this is essential.

There should be no question as to whether or not you should receive marketing training if you’re about to start your own venture. The important thing is; you need to choose a program which delivers the very best network marketing training, because the way in which you’re trained, will have a direct impact on the way you perform. Additionally, while you’re receiving your training, you should observe which methods and which techniques work best because the chances are, you’ll be providing training in the not too distant future.

This fact was part of the discovery of Dr. Otto Warburg about cancers biochemical cause way back in the 1930s. He pointed out several things that differentiate normal cells and cancer cells. Normal cells constantly need oxygen from blood circulation whereas cancer cells do not. It has been noted that any part of your body that do not contain any oxygen have cancer cells dwelling in it.
Stop Feeding Sugar To Your Cancer Cells is a post from: Prostate Health Facts

I bet you didnt know that cancer cells feed on sugar in order for them to survive.

Both normal cells and cancer cells metabolize differently. If normal healthy cells metabolize using oxygen, cancer cells metabolize without the presence of oxygen because it uses the process of fermentation, a procedure similar to making wine which needs absolute oxygen-free environment. The findings also show that cancer cells metabolism is faster than normal healthy cells.

As mentioned, cancer cells use fermentation during their metabolism. During this process, the cancer cells need sugar in order for metabolism to take place. They will use the sugars stored in your body to facilitate the said process. Sugar helps cancer cells grow in number as well as strengthens them. Normal healthy cells also consume sugar in order for them to grow. But for this matter, we have to determine the difference between cancer and normal cells sugar intake.

Not all kinds of sugar feed cancer cells. There are good sugars and bad sugars. Bad sugars, otherwise known as simple sugars, are the main favorite food of cancer cells. These are said to be sugars with no nutritional benefit which you can find in sodas, sweet treats, sugary cereals, processed juice drinks, and other refined grains.

Good sugars, otherwise known as complex carbohydrates, are rich in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. Fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains belong to the good sugars category. The sugars extracted from these food groups are utilized by normal healthy cells in their metabolism.

When you are fond of eating unhealthy foods filled with bad sugars and you have been diagnosed with cancer, start restructuring your food plan. Instead of drinking processed orange juice, why dont you substitute it with the real fruit orange? Flavored yogurts are also one of the rich sources of bad sugars. You can substitute it with plain yogurt filled with fresh fruits instead.

If you simply follow the simple plan of eradicating bad sugars from your overall diet, eventually the cancer cells die out because of starvation and their inability to metabolize and reproduce.

It is now generally agreed that a wider prostate cancer awareness needs to be created to raise consciousness and reduce ignorance about the disease.

Tests, treatment and cure.

The most important step in battling this disease is making information readily available, creating awareness about what it is , who is affected and what are the choices of treatment.

The core to successful treatment, cure or eradication of prostate cancer lies in early testing to ensure early detection of its presence or onset. And so men of 45 years and above should go for screening tests.

This is a cancer common among older men and is one whose growth and spread is generally slow. Sometimes no signs of its presence can be found in the early stages. That is why the solution lies in regular tests.

The tests help the doctor find the presence of any cancer tumours in the prostate. If he finds cells that are benign, he can rule out the presence of cancer. If found malignant then the cells are cancerous. This is important knowledge in prostate cancer awareness.

More tests and early treatment.

If the tumour in the gland is malignant (cancerous) more testing over time will be continued. This is watchful waiting to ensure the cancer does not spread beyond the prostate gland while delaying treatment until absolutely needed.

To further aid in this containment the doctor may use the hormone therapy to reduce the male hormone testosterone which causes rapid multiplication of cancer cells.

More than this, if the cancer is showing signs of growing outside the gland, the doctor may then decide to remove the prostate gland by surgery. This should remove the cancer for good and chances of its recurrence are negligible.

Raising prostate cancer awareness brings hope to succeeding in the battle against the disease. The big step is for men now to show up for early screening tests.

In the early stages in most cases, symptoms of prostate cancer are normally not easy to detect.Yet early detection is important for effective cure and treatment.

For both benign and malignant cells the initial signs are similar and usually exhibit urinary problems. Benign tumors are normally easy to treat and eliminate.

With thorough testing the difference will be established and benign tumors are quite easy to treat and so rule out.

These are the symptoms to look out for :

– passing urine often

– difficulty in passing or holding back urine

– pain or even a burning sensation in urination

– weak stream of urine

– blood in the urine

– some amount of impotence

– painful ejaculation

– swelling in the legs and discomfort in the hips

– lower back pain with stiffness

– weight loss

The doctor will be able to advice on the patient’s condition.

Symptoms of prostate cancer need early detection to allow for checking the spread of the disease and what treatment is needed. Why not get tested today.

Also known as Radioactive Seed Implant, Brachytherapy Prostate Treatment involves either temporary high dosage rate seed implantation or the permanent low dose seed implantation.

In permanent implantation, radioactive seeds are injected into the prostate gland and over a period of several weeks they release low doses of radiation to the tumor. In temporary implantation, small removable catheters are placed in the gland through which high doses of radiation can be administered by the doctor to the cancer cells as required.

What the operation entails

This in a non-surgical operation done under anesthesia that takes 1 to 2 hours It is usually out-patient and the patient will resume normal activities within a few days.

The placement of seeds in brachytherapy prostate treatment is very accurate and because of this precision the doctor can deliver radiation exactly where it is required for maximum effectiveness.

The seeds remain in the prostate and emit localized radiation for a period of time, usually not more than a few months and so destroy the cancer cells.

The size of the seeds is small and the patient will not feel them once in place.

Who should get brachytherapy prostate treatment?

This is treatment that is most effective for patients whose tumors are still within the prostate gland. It is also the ideal treatment for early stages of prostate cancer.

Thorough screening tests are necessary to ensure that the patient is also in good health and that the tumor has not spread outside of the gland.

The bottom line for brachytherapy prostate treatment is that the patient discuss in great detail with his doctor before deciding whether this is the right method for him.

Prostate cancer today is one of the leading causes of death in men. The most advanced stages of this disease are reported to have occurred in men who smoke.

Cancer and Effects of Smoking

Evidence confirms that an indirect relationship between smoking and a variety of types of cancer definitely does exist. The development of this serious health problem usually starts out as an illness that attacks the respiratory system.

Further damage to the body occurs when the breakdown of the immune system takes place. This effect is most noticeable in people who have smoked heavily for several years.

Some of these people have even experienced varying severity of cancer of prostate. Malignancies in some people also may have spread to other parts of the body.

Risk Prostate Cancer

A total of 66% of men who smoke are at increased risk of developing various forms of cancer. This risk is highest if a man still smokes today. The lowest risk of development of a malignant condition is in those who have stopped smoking for ten years or longer.

Further studies are being done on the relationship of the possibility of smoking as a cause of cancer of prostate. Some studies have already indicated that this type of cancer exists in advanced stages in many men who smoke. It may have also spread to other parts of the body.

The most sever cases of any type of cancer including this one occurred in men who were observed that smoked for 20 to 40 years. This study was based on men who smoked one pack a day for 40 years or two packs a day for 20 years.

Hope for Smokers

Hearing this news may seem like dreadful news to some men. However, there is some hope for those who choose to quit smoking at any time.

Even in cases in which a person does quit smoking and still is diagnosed with cancer of prostate later on chances are it can be curable. With every year that passes and one has not smoked the chance of a fatality occurring gradually diminishes.

People are just learning about the possibility of a linkage between cancer of prostate and smoking. The more they learn about how to prevent this type of cancer the more changes they will be willing to make.

Cancer has become the biggest scare for individuals. Most people are now afraid to go to the doctor because they are afraid that they might get the news that they have cancer. Others make sure that they get their annual check-up just to ensure that they don’t have that deadly disease lurking around in their system.

This is a very shock truth. The research also says that one in every three American has cancer but they are just not aware of it because it has not been detected or not diagnosed as yet. The statistics is very alarming.

In the last few years cancer detection has been on the rise despite all the money that has been spent for medical research, the medication for cancer and the drugs and widespread cry to find a cure for cancer, there has been so called no cure for cancer.

Pharmaceutical company, however, have been able to produce medication and drugs that will help alleviate the pain and discomfort of cancer while at the same time making a hefty profit for themselves. Yet cancer continues to take lives.

Most people who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation have said that it made them feel weak and are now beginning to seek a more holistic cure for cancer. And as the need for a natural cure for cancer continues, it has come to the attention of many that there is a simple, natural scientifically proven method to cure cancer.

But now we are told that we have a natural cure for cancer. These researchers have claimed that though this method might be new to some, it has been used and has been scientifically proven to heal cancer and many other deadly diseases.

A method to cure cancer naturally has been found that has been helping people in Europe for many years but has not been a mainstream product. The product has claimed to cure not only cancer but almost all the terminal diseases that most people dread.

Most doctors will confirm that the reason why the body gets cancer or any other disease is simply because the body has gotten so weak that it can no longer fight off disease and so they take over the body.

This medical breakthrough is said to help restore the body’s ability to cure itself simply by putting the body back in the condition where it can heal itself without outside inference of medication, drugs, surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

This form of cure for cancer is safe, easy to use, and natural and is much cheaper than all the other medical procedures and the most interesting aspect is that it can be done at home.

by Laura Burns

It is well known now that throughout the world, men and women have different medical issues. When you think of cancer in women, for example, you automatically think of breast cancer. It may not be as common as in women but breast cancer is found in men as well.

Looking cancer in men it invariably brings up prostrate cancer. Today’s man at a party is more likely to discuss this topic that that of his recently purchased sports car.

If we are honest, it’s the cure we are interested in and preferably how to prevent it but this requires a good deal of research.

If the truth be known, cancer does worry me. I don’t doubt that like me, most men haven’t got it on their minds all day long. However, it does enter my mind every time I see something addressing the illness. When you watch the television, you can’t escape from it with a number of adverts relating to prostrate and breast cancer every hour.

Both will require far more investigation and examination before a cure can be found. As health problems go, cancer is probably the most pervasive in the world and a cure to this dreadful disease cannot come too soon.

I say this specifically about cancer because it’s one illness that cannot be fully prevented. Ok, so you can do all the right things, have the correct diet and exercise, don’t smoke etc. but that doesn’t mean you won’t get it.

No matter how bad HIV is, it is avoidable and is something that is passed from one individual to another, cancer is completely different.

Reading articles and reports carried out on prostrate cancer research is informative and let’s you exactly how far we are away from finding a cure. New treatments and breakthroughs are in the public domain so you do not have to be ignorant on any subject.

One day, articles like this will be redundant because all that breast and prostrate cancer research will have found a cure.

We all know that prostate cancer can happen to any male and it is a very common type of cancer. The commonest form of cancer in the United States today is skin cancer but, to many people’s surprise, prostate cancer is the second most frequently seen type of cancer and results in some 30,000 deaths each year. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, this type of cancer is the most prevalent non-skin cancer in the United States.

A prostate seed implant may be the only type of radiation therapy needed by a man with low-risk prostate cancer or it may be prescribed in addition to external beam radiation therapy in men with intermediate- and high- risk prostate cancer. If caught in its early stages prostate cancer can be successfully treated either by surgery or radiation therapy (radiotherapy) and, while such treatment can often leave its mark in terms of ongoing problems with urination or a degradation or loss of sexual function, the cancer will often not return. Curing prostate cancer is possible, and the treatment is more effective if cancer is detected in the early stages.

Curing prostate cancer is possible, but the condition has to be detected in the early stages. Because prostate cancer is a relatively slow-growing disease and easy to control if it is detected early enough, the regular screenings are recommended for obese people experiencing the above symptoms. Although the aforementioned prostate statistics don’t seem to be good, the truth of the matter is that if prostate cancer is detected early, treatments are often very successful and chances of surviving are very high.

Although the same researchers were quick to point out that each year fewer and fewer men are dying of prostate cancer, due to awareness, better treatments and early detection through new and more available screening techniques. In order to catch prostate cancer in its early stages, it is recommended that men with no risk factors get an annual screening every year beginning at age 50. In addition, beginning at age 50, an annual PSA test is necessary because it is substantially more sensitive for men health than DRE when it comes to detecting early, tiny, or even microscopic cancers that are confined to the prostate gland.

In addition, another confusing aspect is that most of the possible warning signs, if they appear, are also the same signs for other prostate health problems that are non-cancerous in nature, such as BPH, which is called an enlarged prostate gland. I’m sure that we’ve all heard at some point or another the notion that more sex is the solution to prostate problems, citing as evidence the high incidence of prostate cancer in celibate priests. This could be the first time an evidence is produced that a virus is related to prostate cancer development.

Probably, the conclusion that drugs lowering cholesterol may help prevent prostate cancer or at least decrease its development is premature. Sun exposure prevent prostate cancer and the new research suggest vitamin D in supplement may be a safer option today for men. Researchers shown that vitamin D has many micronutrients promote and prevent the prostate cancer in men.

Chemotherapy is typically not effective against prostate cancer although newer drugs developed in recent years have shown the ability to relieve symptoms in men with advanced prostate cancer. According to Prostate Cancer Foundation, symptoms of the ailment include a necessity to urinate very often, weak urine flow, difficulty in starting urination, painful or burning urination, painful ejaculation, blood cells in the semen or urine, as well as frequent pain and cramps in the lower back, hips and upper thighs. One of the most common symptoms listed above is the difficulty starting to pass urine, but keep your eye out for the others.

by Kim and Charles Petty

Introduction:-

Prostate is a glandular organ present only in males. It surrounds the neck of bladder & the first part of urethra and condributes a secretion to the semen. The gland is conical in shape and measures 3 cm in vertical diameter and 4 cm in transverse diameter. It has got five lobes anterior, posterior, two lateral and a median lobe.Since the first part of the urethra pass through it any lesion in the prostate will produce difficulty in passing urine.

Diseases of the prostate gland:-

1) Prostatitis:-

This is the inflamation of the prostate gland due to bacterial infection.

2) Benign enlargement of the prostate:-

This is a non cancerous tumour of the prostate seen after the age of 50. 3,Cancer of the prostate:-This is the 4th most common cause of death from malignant diseases in males.

Cancer of the prostate.

Cancer of the prostate is directly linked with the male sex hormones(androgens). If the levels of sex hormone increases the growth rate of cancer also increases. It is found that after the removel of testes there is marked reduction in the size of tumour.

Site of tumour:-

Prostate cancer is seen mainly in the posterior lobe.Non cancerous enlargement is seen in other lobes.

Changes in the gland in cancer:-

The gland becomes hard with irregular surface with loss of normal lobulation .Histologically prostate cancer is an adeno carcinoma(cancer of the epithelial cells in the gland)

Growth :-

Growth rate is very fast in prostate cancer .The tumour compresses the urethra and produce difficulty in urination.

Spread of tumour:-

Metastasis in cancer of prostate is very early.

1) Local spread:-

From the posterior lobe the cancer cells go to the lateral lobes and seminal vesicles.Tumour cells also move to the neck and base of the urinary bladder.

2) Lymphatic spread:-

Through the lymph vessels cancer cells reach the internal and external illiac group of lymph nodes. From there cells move to retroperitonial(Behind the peritonium) and mediastinal lymph nodes(in the chest)

3) Spread through the blood:-

Spread of cancer cells takeplace through the periprostatic venous plexus and reaches the vertebral veins while coughing and sneezing and finally enders the vertebral bodies of the lumbar vertebrae.

Signs and symptoms of prostate cancer:–

Signs and symptoms depend upon the stage of the cancer. The following symptoms may be seen.

1) No symptoms:-

Tumour is small and only in the posterior lobe. This is diagnosed accidentely.

2) Slight difficulty in urination:-

Here the tumour is enlarged and urethra is slightly compressed.Shortly there will be frequent urge for urination with difficult urination.

3) When the tumour spread to all nearby areas including neck of bladder and urethra there will be painful urination with bleeding.Urine comes drop by drop.

4) Retention of urine:-

When the urethra is completely compressed there will be retention of urine. This can lead to hydronephrosis, renal failure ect.In this condition patient may get convulsions due to renal failure and finally coma.

5) Signs of metastasis:-

Some patients come with the signs and symptoms of metastasis.

a) Lumbo sacral pain due to spread of cancer cells to lumbar and sacral vertebrae.

b) Fracture of spine due to cancerous growth in the spine.

c) Swelling, pain and fluid collection in the abdomen due to lesion in the abdomen.

d) Respiratory complaints due to cancer of mediastinal lymphnodes and lungs.

e) General weakness due to spread of cancer to different parts of the body.

f) Anaemia due to involment of bone marrow and increased destruction of RBCs.

Clinical examination :-

Includes per rectal examination to feel the prostate gland, palpation of abdomen to feel the swelling in kidneys and any tumours.Patient is examined from head to foot to find out any lesions.

Investigations:-

1) Complete blood investigations;-

RBC,WBC,Platlets,ESR,bleeding time ,clotting time ect.

2) Urine analysis:-

Microscopic examination to detect pus cells, occult blood, casts,Crystals ect.

3) Renal function tests:-

Blood urea level, serum creatinine level, electrolyte level ect.

4) Serum acid phosphatase:-

Increased in cancer of prostate.

5) x-ray of the spine:-

To detect any tumour or fracture.

6) Ultra sonography;-

Gives idea about prostate,bladder,kidney ect.

7) C T scan:-

More detailed information about organs and tumour.

 MRI of the spine:-

Gives detailed information about spine ,disc and nearby soft tissues.

9) Lymphangiography:-

Gives idea about lymphatic spread of cancer.

10) Biopsy to confirm cancer:-

Biopsy is taken from the tumour and is send for histopathological examination under the microscope. This will detect the presence of cancer cells.

Treatment:-

1) If there is retention of urine catheterisation is needed. 2) Dialysis if kidney failure. 3) If there is coma monitoring of all vital functions along with parentral nutrition and electolyte supply. 4) Specific treatment is prostatectomy(removal of prostate)

Partial prostatectomy :-

Here only the affected lobe is removed.

Radical prostatectomy :-

Total removal of prostate along with nearby lymphnodes.

5, Hormone therapy :-

Stilbestrol is given to reduce tumour growth.Since this treatement increases the chance for cardiovascular disease phosphorylated diethyle stilbesterol is used nowadays.

6) Chemotherapy:-Drugs like cyclophosphamide, cisoplatim ect are given.

7) Radiotherapy is also done for some cases.

 Homoeopathy:-

Homoeopathic drugs like carcinocin, conium, sabal, crotalus, thuja, iodum, selinium, staphysagria, sulphur ect can be given according to symptoms.Constitutional homoeopathic medicine will give great relief and can increase the life span.

9) Yoga and meditation is also healpful.

The latest on T3 prostate cancer is that patients who have to go through radical prostate surgery can still get good outcomes for the long term. Published in the Journal of Urology (August 2006), the report came from research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and tackled the latest on T3 prostate cancer by testing 176 male subjects.

The Latest on T3 Prostate Cancer – Surgery vs. Hormones

The patients had regional or locally advance T3 prostate cancer and so were undergoing radiotherapy combined with androgen deprivation. They had also had radical prostrate surgery, from 1983?2003.

Out of all the patients, 64 were given Neoadjuvant hormonal treatment, while the rest had radical prostate surgery as their only therapy.

The Latest on T3 Prostate Cancer – PSA Tests

The patients who got the hormonal treatment had higher PSA levels before treatment. They also had more cases of semen invasion.

Men with high levels of prostate-specific antigen or PSA have been shown to develop prostate cancer. But the test is not 100% accurate.

PSA is currently being tested in the hopes of providing some sort of early warning device for prostate cancer diagnosis in its first stage.

The Latest on T3 Prostate Cancer – Short Term Results

The latest on T3 prostate cancer reveals that tumors were downgraded and confined to the organ in 24% of patients who only had prostate surgery as therapy. For patients who had hormonal treatment, downgrading was much better at 41%.

Other results of the study were:

1. A positive surgical margin was noted in 24% of the prostate surgery only patients, and 31% of the hormonal treatment group.

2. Biochemical reactions were seen in 48% of the patients over four and a half years after prostate surgery.

3. The likelihood of being free of any biochemical reactions for 10 years steadily declined as patients had higher PSA levels.

4. It didn?t necessarily follow that only those who underwent hormonal treatment also had biochemical reactions.

The Latest on T3 Prostate Cancer – Long Term Results

The latest on T3 prostate cancer report also stated the following results, which doctors noted over the long term.

1. The overall likelihood that the patients wouldn?t suffer from clinical failure at 5 years was 86%. At 10 years, the probability dropped by 10%.

2. 6.4 years later, 82% of the patients were found to be alive, 11% had died of T3 prostate cancer, and 7% due to other causes.

3. The disease didn?t recur in 52% of patients who underwent prostate surgery for T3 prostate cancer.

Metastasis transforms cancer of the prostate to bone marrow cancer. When prostate cancer metastasizes, the cancer leaves the prostate gland and adjacent organs. Metastasis from prostate to bone marrow cancer usually occurs in advance stage prostate cancer.

During metastasis, cancer cells spread outward. They may spread nearby or they may migrate to distant organs.

Prostate to Bone Marrow Cancer ? Does It Follow A Pattern?

So far, clinical research hasn?t pinpointed any exact way cancer cells spread. However, scientific research has documented distinct patterns in the way certain types of cancer spread.

Also, that certain cancer cell types have a ?preference? for settling in some parts of the body more than others.

So what?s the likelihood of prostate to bone marrow cancer metastasis? Although the reasons behind the pattern are unclear, studies have shown that prostate cancer cells have a preference for settling in bone tissue.

What?s more, prostate cancer cells have a tendency to settle in bone tissue after spreading to the area of the pelvis.

When prostate cancer cells settle into the bone, it becomes known as prostate cancer bone metastasis.

Prostate to Bone Marrow Cancer ? Are Both Treated in the Same Way?

Not necessarily. In primary bone cancer, the cancer cells originate within the bone. In secondary bone cancer, such as prostate cancer bone metastasis, the cancer cells that sit in the bone remain prostate cancer cells. They just happen to sit in the bone.

So in prostate to bone marrow cancer metastasis, cancer cells receive the same exact treatment as those in prostate cancer, like chemo or hormone therapy.

However, prostate cancer cells that have metastasized to the bone won?t just sit there doing nothing. Interacting with the bone tissue, they interfere with bone function and growth, making it weak.

So doctors will treat these prostate cancer cells accordingly, but will also use therapy directed at keeping the bone as strong and healthy as possible.

Prostate to Bone Marrow Cancer ? Probabilities

Primary bone cancer cases are comparatively rare. Usually, ?bone cancer? patients are those that developed it from advance stages of prostate cancer. So since doctors refer to a cancer by where the disease originated, such patients are said to (still) have prostate cancer, but with bone metastasis.

Any type of cancer can metastasize to bone, but the most common bone metastases come from:
- Breast cancer
- Lung cancer
- Prostate cancer

Prostate to Bone Marrow Cancer ? Symptoms

In its advance stage, prostate cancer with bone metastasis will have the following symptoms:
- Soreness/stiffness of the hips, thighs, and lower back
- Severe pain (degrees vary across patients)
- Abnormally high calcium levels in blood (Hypercalcemia)

Prostate overdiagnosis is basically detection of prostate cancer using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing that would otherwise not have been spotted within patients’ lifetimes. Since prostate cancer incidence in the US is high, its detection and overall treatment are of extreme importance. Prostate overdiagnosis is used for detecting cancers that wouldn’t have become apparent during the normal course of an individual’s existence.

About Prostate Overdiagnosis

Prostate cancer screening is closely related to prostate overdiagnosis. It’s an attempt to try and find unsuspected cancers in the body. General screening tests may give rise to more specific follow-up exams like biopsies, wherein small portions of the prostate are taken for further study.

Currently, prostate overdiagnosis and cancer screening options include digital rectal exams and PSA blood tests. However, it’s not clear whether the benefits of prostate cancer screening and prostate overdiagnosis outweigh the known risks of doing follow-up diagnostic testing and treatments, which makes it all the more controversial.

Prostate cancer is a fairly slow-growing type of cancer. It’s extremely common among elderly men. In fact, majority of prostate cancers never grow enough to the point of exhibiting symptoms. Most guys with prostate cancer die of other diseases or causes, way before prostate cancer has a dramatic impact on their lives.

The PSA screening test as it relates to prostate overdiagnosis, is useful for detecting these small cancers that would possibly never reach life-threatening proportions. Running the PSA test in such men could lead to prostate overdiagnosis, plus additional tests and treatments. Follow-up tests like prostate biopsy, might cause pain, infection and bleeding. Prostate cancer treatments may result in erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

Prostate overdiagnosis is helpful in revealing the existence of related cancers in men. Screening for prostate cancer usually starts after the age of 50, but it could also be offered sooner in black men or those with a strong history of prostate cancer in their family. Although there’s no officially proposed cutoff, most healthcare providers cease PSA monitoring and other prostate overdiagnosis tests in men once they reach 75 years and up.

Assuming that PSA screenings are effective, prostate overdiagnosis is considered by many to be quite acceptable ? well, save for the fact that a lot of men diagnosed with prostate cancer via PSA testing would have to endure unnecessary biopsies and significant risks of side effects from cancer treatment, even if they’d benefit nothing from the treatment.

Prostate cancer symptoms of fever may occur due to five major reasons: infection, tumors, blood transfusion, GVHD (graft vs. host disease), or drugs. Prostate cancer symptoms of fever are also sometimes observed as chills, sweats, or hot flashes.

Data on treating hot flashes in prostate cancer patients are scarce. What studies there are indicate that changing sex hormone levels is the culprit. But pilot studies show that drugs exist to deal with the problem.

Aside from prostate cancer symptoms of fever, other types of cancers that share this symptom are leukemia, bone cancer, and Non-Hodgkin?s lymphoma.

Prostate Cancer Symptoms of Fever from Infection

Fever due to infection is called Neutropenic Fever. Prostate cancer symptoms of fever due to infection occur in 75% of patients ? and the outcome is potentially fatal.

The main causes are the bacteria coagulase staphylococci and streptococci, as well as gram-positive bacteria. So what triggers it? Studies show the following causes.
- Use of intra-vascular devices
- Acute mucositis, which is in turn triggered by high dose chemotherapy
- Prophylactic antibiotic treatment using fluoroquinolones

Fluoroquinolones don?t really directly cause prostate cancer symptoms of fever. Rather, they cause bacteria to multiply, which in turn triggers Neutropenic Fever.

Prostate Cancer Symptoms of Fever from Tumors

Fever due to tumors is also called Paraneoplastic Fever. Many doctors consider it to be more typical of tumors like those in the renal glands or lymph nodes. But studies show that Paraneoplastic Fever can also occur due to tumors in other areas of the body, including the prostate gland.

Prostate cancer symptoms of fever come with hypersensitivity and tumor death, among other conditions.

Prostate Cancer Symptoms of Fever from Drugs

Prostate cancer symptoms of fever are also side effects of Zoledronic Acid. The prostate cancer drug, marketed under the brand name Zometa, also relieves bone pain.

It?s ironic, therefore, that the drug has been shown to cause skeletal pain. This skeletal discomfort is one of the flu-like symptoms, which are a side effect of this drug.

Aside from fever, Zoledronic Acid also causes gastrointestinal reactions, insomnia, anemia, and low calcium, potassium, and magnesium levels.

Treatments for Prostate Cancer Symptoms of Fever

Prostate cancer symptoms of fever lead to dehydration in the patient. There is also an increased demand on the patient?s metabolism, which leaves him feeling extremely tired.

To manage the fever, doctors will target the underlying cause. But they will also advice hydration therapy and nutritional support.

However, if the patient is near the end of his life he may no longer want treatment of the underlying cause.

Patients who show prostate cancer symptoms of fever during the advance stages of the disease, for instance, may refuse treatment for pneumonia. They will instead ask for palliative treatments and hydration to make the last days of their lives more comfortable.
